Thinking about Voting CPC? Hold it!

I know everyone is royally pissed at the Liberals, they have the right to be. But do you really want to run to Stephen Harper? I'd be more comfortable knowing Jack Layton would be elected PM then Harper, but it's not going to happen. Let me tell you reasons not to vote for the Conservative Party, (Please don't get mad at me these are just my views, not yours).

1. Where do they stand?

This is the biggest problem with the CPC, I don't have a clue where they stand. One day they are raging right-wingers, the next they are moderates! The "hidden agenda" thing the liberals talk about, actually makes a lot of sense. Cheryl Gallant made a revelation that a CPC Government would repeal Bill C-250. Which will then allow more anti-gay bigotry into this country. What about Health Care?

2. Do you really want Stockwell Day as Foreign Affairs Minister?

I certainly don't, Stockwell Day does not represent the Average Canadian, he represents the Average Albertan. His views are staunchly pro-israel and pro-us (due to his support for the Iraq War).

3. Childish Actions

It's occured to me that the Conservatives are so completely childish, yesterday they were caught singing "Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. Hey, Hey, Hey. Goodbye!" Other childish actions have been courtesy of how horrendous their attacks are on the liberal party. Trust me the Libs do deserve it, but they do not deserve it this bad.

4. Lack of Experience

Stephen Harper likes to take about how young his caucus is and how diverse the party is. But the truth is many of their MP's are way too young and inexperienced to be even considered for a cabinet position.

5. Staunch Pro-US Views

I agree anti-americanism is rampant, but we do not need someone who will be George W. Bush's Lap Poodle. Stephen Harper is a strong supporter of the war in Iraq, and if he was PM at that time he would have sent our young men and women to die for corporate profiteers. He also will re-open negotiations with the Americans on Missile Defense, which Canadians are strongly against.

Those were the reason's I gave. I know some of you probably think I'm an idiot, but that's how I see the Conservative Party in my view.

I don't even think Stock Day represents the average Albertan, to be honest.

Translation: "we may be bad, but these guys are worse!" Not exactly inspiring to the average voter.

Incidentally, there's always some excuse: as if to suggest to Canadians that the universe will end if they ever vote Tory, which in turn is saying "guess you'll just have to stick with us then, eh?".

Whatever your views of their policies, there's nothing that the Conservative party could or would do that would be so irreversable that it couldn't be remedied by defeating them in another election four years later.

You have a right to your views about the CPC, but I'd suggest you've gleaned most of your info from the Toronto Star, and Liberal propaganda, and not a serious, thoughtful investigation of what Conservatives are actually saying.

Those are actually somewhat honest reasons not to vote for the CPC.

I don't agree with them of course, but they're sort of rational and reasonable, by most liberal standards.

Just two clarifications though. I believe the CPC would ammend, not repeal C-250, in order to protect recognized religious scriptures from being deemed as hate literature.

Second, besides Chretien and one or two other Liberals, the 1993 Liberals had very little experience either.

The current Conservatives have a fair bit of depth from provincial politics and other arenas.

The CPC cabinet would be really interesting. They have some VERY talented members (Moore, Ambrose, Stronach, Prentice, Solberg) but then they have nutcases like Stockwell. I'd be curious to see what kind of Cabinet Harper picks if he gets in as PM.

No, this would allow organizations like the Knights of Columbus to be able to practice their religion without fear of extremists taking them to the HRC.

That is certainly an insult to say that Albertans are not average Canadian, it is rather pompous too.

If this is what you base your objections to the CPC, they certainly are not that bad. Try this on for size. Liberal attack ad on the military, then denying it was even in public even though it was posted on their website and sent to reporters, then saying they are pulling the ad and it was still being played on a Quebec television station. How about them dividing our country? They contributed more to separation than Mulroney and that's tough to beat.

Why don't you hold the liberals to the same standard when they were elected to parliament and brought into cabinet? If we go by what you are saying, we would never have a new government. Pretty silly.

Stephen Harper is a strong supporter of the Iraq war, funny thing though, we didn't have that many available troops to send in the first place, and this is why Chretien never sent them, it would expose his negligence of the military, now continued by Martin.

Martin says one thing to the US government on missle defence, on other issues and then flip flops to the reporters. What has Martin accomplished in the disputes with the States? Just rhetoric. If you want to call that getting tough with the states, go ahead but without any results I would choose Harper to get us those results, after all, what does it matter that you yell and scream but get nothing out of it?
