It's been quite a long time since I've posted, I've decided that rather than shut down this Blog I'm going to be starting it up again and I will be giving my views on any political topics Canadian or American, this blog is likely to slant more to the American Side but I may chant in with some Canadian Politics once in a while, I feel that in the U.S. it's a little more exciting right now than it is up here. Obviously we just came off a Municipal Election that ended up seeing Rob Ford elected as Toronto's New Mayor. I would like to Congratulate Mr. Ford as Toronto's Next Mayor and wish him the best.

Dispute it all you want, I do personally believe the atlantic will be for the most part except for New Brunswick a wholesale Conservative meltdown. You also have to keep in mind that I've tried to be Fair, I believe the Conservatives will win, I just think there will be a few incumbent Conservatives who will get booted.

What Happened to the Tories Well Oiled Machine?

Throughout the last couple of years we were hearing so much about how the Tories were supposedly running one of the strongest and most organized campaigns. Complete with a new state of the art war-room. Yet if anything is to be learned this week. It is that the Tories having a well-oiled machine is a myth. Let's just Recap what happened this week.

*The first and major gaffe of the week is Puffingate, which revolved around the funny little bird dropping a deuce on a photo of Stephanie Dion on a Tory Attack Site. Harper was forced to apologize because of this idiocy and as well his own campaign team had to scramble to replace it.

*The Tories appointed a candidate in the riding of Halifax and then two days later she was forced to resign because it was found she had a criminal record

*Tory Loose Cannon Cheryl Gallant ridiculously claims that the liberals will tax or ban firewood.

*Their Candidate in Madawaska-Restigouche, New Brunswick is getting sued over a failed business venture.

*After initally opposing Elizabeth May in the debates, Harper bowed to Public Pressure and Reversed himself.

*Conservative MP's Rona Ambrose and Royal Galipeau Fraudulently used an Ottawa Kids store to supposedly announce new Child Care Policy Details.\

*And most recently the Conservatives had to can their communications director after he implied that Criticism from a father of a soldier killed in Afghanistan was politically motivated.

If this is what we can expect of the Tories' Election Machine for the next couple of weeks. Well let's just say that Majority Government may not be in reach for them.

In Defense of Tom Lukiwski

I know I'm probably going to take heat for deviating from the Liberal Line here.

First of all, No matter who you are, Tom Lukiwski's comments were offensive, disgusting and repugnant. That being said he should at the very least resign from his parliamentary secretary job. That being said I want to delve into the tape and talk about why Mr. Lukiwski said the things he said.

Number One, I know Mr. Lukiwski's record on Gay Rights are not good. He's voted against Gay Marriage three times.

Number Two, I'm not somebody who is going to call people a homophobe for voting against Gay Marriage unless they said some really despicable things during a debate in the House of Commons.

Number Three, You have to realize the time, this is 1991 we are talking about. At that time Homosexuality was still not as accepted as it is today, secondly, you have to watch the Video's Context, this guy was likely drunk off his ass (see the beer bottle in his hand), I'm not saying that gets him off scot-free, but I truly do think the alcohol in his system was a contributing factor.

Personally, I think this is just Mr. Lukiwski being an idiot, If you watch the entire video you can easily tell these are people just having a little too much fun and having had way too much to drink. Now I've never been drunk, but I can definitely tell you that people do not act the way they normally do when they are (Trust me, I've been around people that are drunk, and while they may say things that aren't normal, I don't believe they aren't the people who they truly are for a second). The video in my opinion is pretty much a drunken frat party.

And I know Gay Rights groups want to make a big deal out of this and I understand why, but look, if the Prime Minister will Repudiate the comments then I will consider the matter case closed.

Even though I'm a liberal, I think Mr. Lukiwski, the person himself has been raked through the coals enough, he should still have the decency to resign his Secretary post.

Hey Jim, Go Suck an Egg

Since we've just come off Easter, I think it's only right I tell Jim Flaherty what I think about his recent comments about our Ontario Budget.

Jim, Go Suck an Egg. We don't need you telling our province how to run our budget. See, when you guys were elected, you and your party said: you were going to let the provinces have more control over their jurisdiction.

Well, let's just chalk that up to another broken promise. Jim seriously, Are you the Finance Minister of Canada or are you the Finance Minister of Ontario? Because, if you really don't want your current Job and you are really looking for John Tory's Job. Step right up and take it, because I would love nothing more then to have you out the current job you own. Because, all you've done since you've gotten into office, is start laying the groundwork to ruin our country financially.

Jim, I want to say this as nicely as I can, but I'm really angry at how you've insulted my province. So in the nicest possible way I can say it.

When Will Alberta Give Up on the Conservative Dictatorship?

I'm hoping that tonight we will have change but considering this is "Alberta" I'm not going to be surprised when we have an eleventh straight conservative government in Alberta, admittedly I'm not from Alberta. I know that Alberta has always been a conservative stronghold, I'm not stupid. But let's be honest folks, even Alberta needs a change.

I knew damn well the Liberals were not going to hold the federal governments reigns forever. Let's be serious though, The Tories in Alberta are a bunch of tired old politicians who have run out of ideas and can pretty much just sit on their thumbs and do nothing, because they think Albertans are Idiots, I know they aren't idiots, but to be serious, don't you guys get tired of having the same damn party win every election? It's not even a damn fight.

Seriously Alberta, do something wild. Stop being so boring and predictable.

I Knew Harper was bad, but...

So I sit down this morning for my morning coffee and open up a paper and the first thing I find, is this. I almost spat out my coffee after reading this. Folks, there is no nice way to put this. This is fascism in action pure and simple, I knew Harper was a bad prime minister, but this takes the cake, I saw this story and my blood boiled. I know I haven't been on much but when I see something like this get barely any coverage anywhere else and then have Sandra Buckler, the PM's Propaganda Gal says that they have no plans to "pursue" such a project.

Are you fucking kidding me? Seriously take a look at that, they got caught with their pants down on this one, do they honestly believe people are that stupid? Where is the media on this issue? Kudos to the Toronto star for unearthing this horrifying situation. Stephen Harper is a total Hypocrite when it comes to Ethics, he slammed the liberals for lack of transparency and yet he has run one of the most secretive governments in Canadian history. He also liked attacking the Liberals over a sponsorship scandal, until it was found his own party violated the law trying to win the 2006 election by laundering money through weak candidates. Stephen Harper plain and simple is a thug who pushes people around and states that it's his way or the highway. He likes to talk about how he's such a leader, well Stevie, maybe I can tell you that Leaders are not thugs and they don't bully and push people around to get their way. True Leaders are people who listen and try to compromise and find a solution for all Canadians and not for one segment of the population.

Dion should go for it.

There are obviously many opinions in the Liberal Caucus right now that we should avoid an election espeically with the release of a poll right now that shows Harper is in Majority Range. Dion realistically has two options, I'm almost certain that it is not going to involve voting for the throne speech.

1) Dion can abstain or have some MP's abstain from the vote to ensure that the speech passes, but it is voiced that the Liberals do not support the government. Of course he could completely abstain but that may draw more "Stephane Dion is not a leader" quotations.

2) The very risky scenario but personally I feel it is better, I personally believe now is the time Dion should take out this government. If he wants to end accusations of Poor Leadership then he should vote down the throne speech and throw down the gauntlet at Harper, he needs to state that he's not going to run away or playing Stephen Harper's game any longer. He needs to laugh off this cariacture that the media paints him out to be, He needs to show that he is not going to let the Media or Mr. Harper paint him to be like this. I personally do not believe the tripe that Stephane Dion is not a leader, he has had his ups and downs and just like Stephen Harper had people quit on him and said that he never could be prime minister that does not mean Stephane Dion can never be prime minister, I personally believe he will, as Liberals we should not second-guess our choices, We chose Dion and personally I believe that with anyone else as leader we probably would still be in the same position we are now. Dion has obviously started laying the policy groundwork for the next election. I am not sure if he can win Government but I am certain that he can most certainly stop Harper from getting a majority, he needs to believe in himself, he needs to paint Harper as someone who is secretive, arrogant and somebody who is a schoolyard bully because that's essentially what he and the conservative party are, they are a bunch of bullies that feel the need to go and enforce their own agenda no matter how many times people tell them that they are wrong on an issue.

So If Dion wants to show he has some balls he will go and he will take the fight to these clowns.

The Liberals Don't Need a Quick Fix, They need a complete Overhaul

Here is what I think the Liberals need to do if they want to stop becoming a laughing stock that they already are.

I remember not so long ago that Stephen Harper was in this exact same position, but instead of repeating the old tired liberals are corrupt mantra, he basically was able to offer a lot of policy ideas and people flocked to it because they saw someone who had a vision for Canada "at the time". It's quite funny that the Liberals Popularity is much better then Dion's and Harper is much more popular than his own party.

We cannot afford as a party to have an election at this time, we are in terrible shape and we will get slaughtered if we insist on going into an election, I would suggest Mr. Dion either vote for the throne speech or if not then mass-abstain from it. Secondly, Mr. Dion has to stop being on the defensive and start coming out with policy and try to paint Mr. Harper as somebody who is visionless and a panderer.

I think the Liberals seems to be popular outside of Quebec and Alberta. They aren't in bad shape in those areas but they can still improve. In Quebec however it is where they are really going to have to shape up or ship out. Dion is obviously stuck on the federalism issue and even if he tried to change his views now it would not look genuine. He needs to clearly state that he believes that Quebec has a strong place within Canada and he needs to say that the era of Sovereignty vs Federalism is over and it is time to move on from that debate, He has to give the impression to the Quebecois that he is willing to sit down and listen to what they have to say.

It is going to take at least a year or two to try and win back the hearts and minds of the Quebecois and the rest of Canada, we have no choice but to wait it out and go back to the drawing board. I think that the entire Quebec Wing of the party needs to be completely reformed and fixed up. We need to open more offices as well in Quebec. Dion needs to start raising money online and start trying to appeal to the grassroots of the party. The Liberals need to stop this Top to bottom management style, it's hurt the party so much and it leaves the wrong impression. This is a party run by the people and not run by one person.

This needs to serve as a guiding lesson for now.

Vote Against MMP

Over the past few days many people have stood up with regards to the referendum debate and have basically said that we should vote for this system. Well to me personally I say no. We have only one pledge from a party leader so far that he will allow a party convention to choose the list of Candidates that they will run and that is Howard Hampton. I am assuming that John Tory who recently declared in a story in one of the major papers that he had the same concerns that I had regarding this system.

The truth is the MMP-system is a flawed voting system, it rewards the Leaders and Party Hacks of every party and it allows them to continue to force things to go their way or the highway. And even if this passes what is not to say that the major parties will not follow the Hampton Precedent? As much as I dislike the FPTP system, I feel that MMP is inadequate. I feel that personally we should have Instant-Runoff Voting. It works in Australia and I do personally feel that people need to achieve 50% to win, I feel it's only fair that way.

My Thoughts on the By-elections

Let's be honest folks this was a clusterfuck of enormous proportions, this by-election never should have been lost but really I think it had to do with the following.

1. Stephane Dion's candidate, Jocelyn Coulon was badly hurt by perceived anti-semetic writings. It was a really bad decision to put a candidate who had controversy with the Jewish Community up for election.

2. Jack Layton had the best candidate he could get to run for him in that riding and rightfully so, because I would bet you my life savings that if Mulcair did not run, The Liberals would have had this riding. I am almost certain they would have.

3. Is this an indictment of Stephane Dion's leadership? Yes and no, Obviously Dion made a terrible decision by putting up a Candidate like Coulon. However, I again do believe that had Mulcair not been the NDP Candidate, he would not have won. That being said, I think that Dion took the high road and even saw a silver lining in this, as much as I hate having another conservative elected, I would take a federalist over a sovereignist any day.

Stephane Dion is that rare person who has unbridled optimism despite what people say about him. So while this was a terrible terrible error, I am sure that Dion can rebound from this. However, I am really hoping the Liberals do not want to go into an election right now. It would be a huge mistake, We need to see the Conservatives make a big mistake and so far they aren't. However, I personally feel that Harper is not going to make a move until after October 10, that's after the Ontario Provincial Election, BTW.

What's The Deal With John Tory?

I'm back from Summer Vacation and ready to blog, I know blogging can be very difficult considering you have to keep working at it. I haven't found much to post about until today, when I've officially realized that John Tory has completely lost his mind.

To be quite honest, as a member of the Liberal Party, I seriously believed that John Tory hitting the liberals over the head with the Broken Promises was really going to do some severe damage, so yes I was quite fearful of what Tory could do. But, instead Tory has run a very sloppy campaign so far. He's had a case of what we like to call foot in mouth disease and cannot seem to get his foot out of his mouth. But, even before that I would say Tory has made some boneheaded moves.

The first boneheaded move came when he chose to run in Toronto, Though John Tory kept his word, he knows damn well it was by far idiotic, I really think that Toronto has changed heavily since the Tories were swept out of Toronto in 2003, The Federal Tories have not held a seat in Urban Toronto in almost 10 years or so and the Provincial Tories are hoping to not start a repeat of that record. If John Tory had run in his old riding of Dufferin-Peel-Wellington-Grey (Now Dufferin-Caledon), he would not have had to worry about campaiging in a very liberal city like Toronto, instead he did just that. Don Valley West, the riding John Tory is running in, does have a bit of a libertarian streak to it and I admit Tory did not pick downtown Toronto, but this is still going to be very very close.

The other boneheaded move by Tory? His opponent is Kathleen Wynne who just so happens to be the Minister of Education, with John Tory now bringing up the Funding Religious Schools Argument, Wynne will likely be able to use her knowledge in the portfolio of Education, to destroy Tory's arguments on this. I know that Provincially, the tories are not as hated as the federal tories are in toronto. But still, this does not Mean John Tory will win this in a walk.

Then Come the Gaffes.

Jaysus Leweezus, Hasn't John Tory done more then enough to insult the education system the past few days? These Gaffes not only show that John Tory cannot control his mouth, it also shows what Little Knowledge he has of the Education System. McGuinty should make it a priority to hammer this home in the debates. He needs to make the point that Tory is completely oblivious on education and that he doesn't seem to know how the heck the education system works.

I should also ask why Mr. Tory is so hellbent and headstrong on bringing back a failed policy of the Harris Tory era? Somebody please tell me, What is the deal with John Tory?

Harper if he's looking at a majority government is not going to get it in an election he'll only succed at increasing his seat total but that's it. One thing is for certain now Bloc and NDP are definitely losing seats but could the liberals just gain off the NDP and BQ losses despite not having the best leader? I think so.

R.I.P: June Callwood 1924-2007

It is with great shame that we lost two great people from this world, the first Kurt Vonnegut, was one of the greatest novelists ever to live, and just today, June Callwood, Canada's Social Conscience has passed away at age 82. She had a remarkable life and because of her she faught for many things even before it was fashionable, she had a strong belief in what right, she tried to get health care and help for poor homeless youth, when that didn't work out. She founded a house for theme to stay in. She spoke out against sexual violence, domestic abuse and on teen pregnancy. She founded hostels for abused women and a center for Pregnant Teens. She also took in people who were dying of AIDS in 1988 when there was little options for them. Callwood used her riches for the benefit of the people society looked down upon. She fought for Women's Rights, Gay Rights and ever other social justice cause you can think of. Through it all, she never gave up. She fought for what she believed in and for that she was a great canadian and a wonderful woman. She will be missed.

In Defense of Belinda Stronach

I was upset with the news that Belinda Stronach is leaving politics today, she was a very interesting woman and I was glad to see someone with her magnitude (no pun intended) in the house of commons. However, Magna has just purchased Chrysler and she feels her skills could be better used in the business world. First of all, there is one thing I think of when describing Belinda Stronach. Courageous and above all she had balls (in the courageous sense I mean). When she crossed over to the Liberal Party she took many knocks and even after that period of discontent people bashed her with sexist comments and you know what, she could have cried, she could have ran off into a corner. But she didn't, she stood there and she took everything that people said about her and didn't pay attention to it. To me she is courageous for taking the stands she did and being true to herself. I know she's a controversial figure, but anybody who can still stand on their two feet and ignore those kinds of hateful comments is a great person in my book.

Well the most accurate polling company in Canada has published it's polling results and if you look at last years election they pretty much called it within one percentage point, these are the most accurate pollsters in Canada.

First the Good

*The Conservatives after throwing all the money they could at Quebec have suceeded in that region as many thought, however it appears their budget outside of Quebec connected with nobody. It also appears the Conservatives still have not gotten past their last Election numbers with 36 percent.

Taking these numbers into Professor Antweiler's Projection project it predicts something very odd.

The Seat Total if an election was held today would be

Of Course I can't believe those numbers because it fails to take into account Quebec.
If I Insert the Quebec Numbers I get this

The Conservatives would gain off the bloc and despite the liberals dropping they actually gain seats off the bloc's lost popular vote. I'm keeping the one NDP seat in strathcona because i think Duncan can win and there were some seats in SK that switched hands.

A Welcome to Garth Turner

I was pretty excited when Garth Turner decided to move to the liberal party. I won't call this crossing the floor because he was booted out and then changed his affiliation, he really didn't cross any floor he was in fact on the liberal side of the aisle if you take a look at it. Hypocritical? I know people were going to shout this at him and that's quite fine, I expected it. Look Crossing the floor is party of Politics, let me point out I did not go after Wajid Khan after what he did because that wasn't blatant opportunism, he was enticed by Stephen Harper and appropriately he took the bait and went over to him. However in David Emerson's case what he did was purely disgusting, If he had done it later but not two weeks after an election I might have been a little easier on him but because he did something that was so unbelievably odd and essentially in my opinion, backstabbing that I was really upset when he did it. He acted arrogant and holier-than-thou, so yes I was angry. However, Garth Turner's affiliation switch was interesting. I don't expect Garth Turner to change, he was always his own man and that's how he will operate. However, because of him Switching he absolutely stole the thunder from Harper's Speech, so that was a good thing for him moving his affiliation.

My friends, there is no reason to flip out over Wajid Khan's defection. While this is pretty upsetting it doesn't even compare to David Emerson and what he did. Wajid served time as a liberal member of parliament and this is all part of politics. It wasn't a shock to me that Khan crossed over. Clearly he wanted to work with Stephen Harper and Stephane Dion questioned how someone could be an advisor to a prime minister while being a member of the opposite party. So quite frankly Wajid is in the right place and I'm not extremely angry. That being said I think that he is in a different situation then David Emerson. I am almost 100% certain that Emerson is going to be defeated as for Khan he might not be, But again it is very distressing to see him next to Stephen Harper. This is a man who flip flopped on who he thought was best for the country 4 times. First he thought Volpe was the best, then he thought Rae was the best, then he thinks Dion is the best and now Lo and behold, he thinks Harper is the best. This defection doesn't prove anything, it doesn't mean the liberals are in trouble, it means that there is a man who was opportunistic and fool-hardy to try and balance both things at the same time.

I just read this, and I almost fell out of my chair laughing at how pathetic the Conservative and NDP attempts to discredit Dion are.

According to that Wisdom-Lover that is John Baird

He's one of those ... Cabinet ministers from Quebec who sat through the sponsorship scandal and claimed not to know a thing that went on while millions of dollars were stolen

John please, really, who in God's name is going to believe Dion was in anyway involved in the Sponsorship Scandal, this is just a desperate attempt to throw anything and see if it sticks. Mr. Dion was in Government, of course, but who honestly is going to believe other then Hardcore Tory Partisans that Dion actually had something to do with the Sponsorship scandal? Is Mr. Baird actually serious about this? Is there an assumption that if your from Quebec and you were a cabinet minister in Quebec during that time your a crook? This attack just won't fly and if this is seriously the best the Tories can come up with at the moment, they are really in trouble.

Next, I want to turn to the baseless and rediculous attempt by those bastions of integrity, the NDP. I want to tell you that I just want to say I used to have a lot of respect for Jack Layton before he just completely lost his mind. The NDP today is a party that is so out of touch with Canada's priorities, they do nothing but scream, shout and protest, but they really don't have any agenda except to throw softball questions to Cabinet Ministers.

Liberals have yet to address the elephant in the room

While I am happy Stephane Dion has won, I believe that the Liberals have really got to prepare to put out a strong platform that Canadians can vote for in the next election, We need to make meaningful promises to Canadians and not 20,000 different promises. The Liberal party needs a hell of a lot more work then just a fresh coat of paint, we need to dismantle the whole car and start building are platform from the bottom up. We have a Leader who thankfully displays that he does care about the environment and that he is passionate about it.

I want to tell everyone in the Liberal Party that they cannot let the NDP and the Conservatives peddle falsehoods on Stephane Dion, we have to let Stephane Dion define himself to his audience and we need him to speak the truth before the NDP and the Conservatives try to discredit him. Dion needs to prove he is a strong leader and he needs to inflict some serious harm on Stephen Harper.

While I've heard a lot of things from opponents, I say to people who voted for Ignatieff, that there is definitely room in this party for you, for the first time in a long time the Liberal Party has been united and we are going to work towards victory. Michael Ignatieff was a gracious man and he has a bright future ahead of him. As for Gerard Kennedy, Mr. Kennedy made a difficult decision but he did the right thing for the Liberal Party and I know that Mr. Kennedy will definitely have a great future ahead for him and he will definitely be in a better position next time.

We are all Liberals, we have a role to play in helping us win the next election, But I'm going to tell you the truth, we will not win if we cut corners to try and win the election, we need to work long and hard at this and come up with an agenda that the people of Canada can attach themselves for. Simply put, just being anti-Stephen Harper is not an agenda, and this has been I think one of the weaknesses of left of center parties, they are more able to oppose something then get behind something. I hope Dion uses the environment issue to flog Harper over the head, it is an issue that he used to great effect and he will likely continue to do it.

Well now, we finally have the results in and there are a few shockers Ignatieff has been held under 30 percent, he right now does not have the momentum according to our estimates we made on Wikipedia Ignatieff was expected to have close to 1,607 delegates voting in favor, he ended up with close almost 195 short of that tally. Bob Rae was estimated to have 1,029 delegates according to wikipedia and that number was within one hundred and the estimates were off by 52, But what seems to be really surprising is Gerard Kennedy who was expected to have 931 delegates but was off by 77, Stephane Dion was expected to have 883 delegates and the projections were off by 21. This means that There was a few things we can take from this, Kennedy and Ignatieff lost support among ex-officios. We will have to see what happens with Martha Findlay and what impact the Volpe movement will have to Rae. The next ballot is going to really tell us where things stand. We must keep in mind that Ignatieff and Rae both have lost the momentum, Rae is going to be hurt by non-stop negative attention to the fact he barely spoke any french tonight and Ignatieff is going to be hurt by the fact he underperformed on the first ballot. Clearly the candidate who has momentum is Stephane Dion, although he and Kennedy are separated by just 2 votes, Dion has won the most coveted place on the ballot at the moment and is in position to win, The meetings that have occured between Dion and Kennedy likely have been intense and I am almost certain one is going to back the other depending on what happens. We will see what Scott Brison, Ken Dryden and Hall Findlay will do. Dryden has been a wild card, but to me I just don't know if I see him going to rae or ignatieff. But we're going to find out soon exactly where those delegates will be Going.

While every liberal is celebrating the election of a new leader in Montreal, I had to make a very difficult decision a few weeks ago. I would like to take this time to explain why I will not be at this weekend's convention.

I am a student, and while my mother would have paid for me to go to Montreal and to this convention, I had to turn it down. While I enjoy politics and follow politics I can not put Politics before my education, being now that college has came down to crunch time. It breaks my heart to say I had to forgo the convention.

I am extremely jealous of all of you but I would hope that you would understand that my heart is with each and every one of you as you choose the next leader of this party. Please choose wisely and think carefully after the 1st ballot, your vote is going to determine the future of this county. So be wise.

Quebec Motion: Oppose it.

I'm calling on all liberals to stop being boxed into a corner and suck it up and vote against this motion, we know in our hearts that this motion is completely wrong for Canada. This motion is a huge can of worms Mr. Harper has opened up. Just read the motion it says the Nation of Quebecois within a United Canada. What this essentially says is that Francophones in Quebec consitute a nation. That's right Francophones only, not the Anglophones, this is a very bad move and it is wrong, I think that the motion will lead to a huge slippery slope.

What this will do is lead to what exactly Gordon Campbell just talked about a few days ago with Native Canadians demanding a nation. I would think in truth that Quebec is not a nation rather I believe that Northern Canada is more of a nation then Quebec. Let's see not only are the people there indigenous to this land, they are in my opinion more of a country then Quebec is. This is a very difficult and tough issue. I hope the liberals will do the smart thing and vote aginst this motion because it is one of the stickiest situations with words going all over the place. This is a jumbled language lesson and despite the fact it might cost us electoral points we should be smart and oppose it completely. This motion is extremely divisive and it is way too important to just throw it away with one vote.

My Thoughts on the Debate

Earlier yesterday, I had the chance to go see the Liberal Leadership Debate at Roy Thompson Hall, Let me say that it was a phenomenal seating arrangement and I must say that I was delightfully entertained.

Some of the highlights included:

*The Rae and Ignatieff Exchange: Rae and Iggy both went for each other's throats here, sufficed to say they both missed landing a blow. But clearly Michael Ignatieff was completely off his game today in the debate, this was a man who is clearly nervous about hanging on to victory.

*Stephane Dion: Hands Down Dion won the debate, Dion has earned my second choice and I will support him if Kennedy should fall. I think Stephane Dion was the only candidate in the room to show that he has major cojones. He has consistently defended the Liberal Party's record in Government and he would be the one to take away Mr. Harper's tired old line that the Liberals did nothing. Mr. Dion was fiery and passionate, he didn't wobble he took a position and he stuck with it. Watching Mr. Dion transform himself over these past few months has been nothing short of Remarkable. The man stands up for what he believes in and he will challenge anybody who tries to prove him wrong.

*Gerard Kennedy: Let me say that my opinion of Gerard has shifted significantly. Do not get me wrong, I have been a supporter of his campaign from Day one and I will support him until he comes last in one of the ballots, to be quite honest.

*Bob Rae: We all know he is a phenomenal debater, my only worry remains is how will he be able to ask the people of Ontario to trust him again.

May I remind you that the only way I can forsee Kennedy winning this election is in a possible scenario.

1. He has got to get third place here, if he does not his chances of winning go down dramatically, he needs to have a shot that if Dion drops off or Kennedy drops off they will back each other.

Let me also say why I think it's important either Kennedy or Dion win. If Ignatieff wins, he would be Jack Layton's christmas present, Jack Layton would cream his pants because he would be able to start spinning his line about how right wing Ignatieff is on foreign policy and it can have an effect. Now if Bob Rae gets in I'm honestly not sure what to expect, the problem with Bob Rae is he looks too much like a guy who should be spending his time doing something else. I mean he just doesn't have the look of a leader, i know it sounds bizarre but I just do not get that vibe off him. Stephane Dion would be a fantastic choice for leader, If Kennedy does not win I would urge Gerard to back him because he or Gerard in my opinion would lead the liberals to victory.

My thoughts on where other candidates might lean

Joe Volpe: Kiss of Death, some people might not do what he says because of his opinion. I know for sure he has many problems with Ignatieff, He would go for any of the other three I think

Martha Hall Finday: Im unsure about her, could go anywhere

Brison: I don't know.

Ken Dryden: Hmmm, this is a tough one i feel he's not an ignatieff guy, he'd go for any one else though.

That being said, despite the screwups in Quebec Dion still has 17 ridings left while Kennedy has at least 20 left in Ontario.

My Prediction: Kennedy In the Top Three

Let me explain personally why I believe that Ignatieff isn't the right man to lead the liberal party and why I cannot believe that the party brass support him. I personally think Him or Rae would be a disaster for the Liberals and the fact there are people out there who actually believe they could win back government for us are completely out of their mind. If Michael Ignatieff wins the Leadership Election, I would have trouble supporting the party, the only way I would vote liberal is if my local candidate is strong and I've heard from my MP that she is seriously considering stepping down. If that is true then that would be what my vote is based on. Mr. Ignatieff is way too right wing for my taste, he would be Jack Layton's dream come true. He would give Jack Layton everything he needs to help make the case that the Liberals have shifted to the right. Many people will doubt what I say, I personally have a problem with someone like Iggy coming into my country and hijacking our party. It feels invasive. Mr. Ignatieff might make a good cabinet minister probably a foreign affairs minister. But in no way should this man be leader. Bob Rae is almost as worse. If Rae or Ignatieff are selected, The death of the Liberal Party will occur. I am basically at the point now where i hope either Dion or Kennedy win. They are the only ones who can help the liberal party.

Why Borys Wrzesnewskyj is foolish

Before, I make this point. I realize I'm going to get some flack from my liberal friends and perhaps some Conservatives will cheer this, but the point has to be made.

What Borys Wrzesnewskyj has said has been foolish. Let me also say that for the past few weeks the Liberal Party has fallen in to Stephen Harper's traps and in that part Harper has successfully divided the Liberal Party. Borys Wrzesnewskyj's Idiotic comments about negotiating with Hezbollah begs the question, exactly what the hell was he thinking?

I can tell you for sure Borys definitely wasn't thinking whatsoever. In the past few weeks the Liberal Party has become a joke, I know you won't like me to say it but really they have. We have no clear position on terrorism and the Middle East, we have a former defense critic actually asking to negotiate with Hezbollah, which is seen by a clear majority as a terrorist organization. On top of that we have suffered a defection of Gerry Schwartz and Heather Reisman to the Conservative Party over their position on Israel.

Do I blame Bill Graham, no. Personally I think the way this is going the Liberals are completely screwed, though I'm never going to say never. It just doesn't look great. We need to get back to issues personally I think we have to stop screwing around and get our act together. The caucus meeting helped alot but still, we can do a hell of a lot better!

I know many people will take issue with my criticism but this is the truth and if we as liberals cannot look in the mirror and realize what a mess this party is then we are never going to win.

Today, rather then bash the government or go off on a rant I'd like to take the time to deliver my little eulogy to Mr. Benoit Sauvageau, Bloc Quebecois member for Repentigny I cannot say I have ever met the man in my life but it saddens me to see a life cut short like his was today, It's beyond tragic. I cannot believe that someone had to die like that. Mr. Sauvageau is with the lord now, although I do not believe in sovereignty I would like to think that Mr. Sauvageau was loved by his constituents and that he did a good job representing them, he will be missed.

Not a moment too soon. Connecticut Democrats were not taken in by Joe Lieberman's blackmailing with his Independent Campaign and loudly gave him the boot on Tuesday. Boy, did Senator Lieberman need it. First of all, let's be clear, anyone who claims Democrats are weak on terrorism are just a bunch of republican shills repeating a spin line.

In fact Democrats are not weak on terror, we just disagree with the republicans on how to do things. First things first, the war in Iraq is an illegal war that was set up by the Bush Administration, The Bush Administration has changed its tune everytime it starts getting unpopular. First, Bush said that the US went into Iraq to find these WMD's he claimed existed. Then, Bush danced around and said that they went into Iraq to participate in Nation Building. So I'd now like to ask Mr. Bush what the hell are we still doing in Iraq? For the past three years we have continued to hear bullshit from the mouth of Secretary Rumsfeld. Rumsfeld is in my personal opinion a man who just cannot handle the truth. So he instead turns the crank for Bush and continues to repeat the spin line that somehow the US has turned the corner on Iraq?

I got a question for all of you, do you think something is up when a President continuously says Stay The Course, We've Turned the Corner on Iraq and we don't see actual evidence of real progress.

So how does this tie in with Joe Lieberman?

Rather then acknowledging the war was poorly planned and that there were many problem s in Iraq like almost everybody else with a brain could figure out. Mr. Lieberman decided to join in and become the head Democratic party cheerleader (after Zell Miller left) for George W. Bush. I should point out that there is footage of a state of the union address where there is footage of Joe Lieberman standing up and applauding the president, and the camera will clearly show that not one other person in the entire Democratic Senate Caucus (that's right not even Ben Nelson of Nebraska, the most conservative democrat, applauded Bush) except for Joe Lieberman applauded him on Iraq. That should simply say it all. Joe Lieberman lost not only because of his position on Iraq, but he lost because when he got confronted with the facts he was the only one in the Democratic Senate Caucus to not even bother changing his views on the matter. There is room in the Democratic Party for people who are moderates, we have not problem with that. Simply there is no room for people like Joe Lieberman who is wildly out of touch with an overwhelming majority on their viewpoint on Iraq.

Let me also be clear just because Lieberman voted 90% of the time with Democrats does not mean we demand a rubber stamp, simply put Lieberman was dead wrong on Iraq and he refused to listen to reason when confronted with the facts, so unfortunately that will kill your career in this party.

Joe Lieberman looked like a fool in his concession speech, he came off as angry and pissed off. He acted like a child without his bottle, he whined and complained and bitched and moaned. What does that say about Joe Lieberman's character, it shows that he has become a career politician who thinks that he is "entitled" to his seat and shouldn't even bother having to face a challenge. Lieberman's Campaign pretty much went the way of Dare I say it the Liberal 2006 Election Campaign? I think the Liberals should take a look at this race and look at all the mistakes Lieberman made because most of them are really similar.

1. At one point in the polls Lieberman and the Liberals both led their opponents.

2. Even before the election and months before both of their respective opponents were considered Jokes and not to be taken seriously.

3. Eventually they both went onto lose as both became arrogant and claimed they had the right to govern/have their senate seat.

So in essence I think that there are many lessons to learn from this election and I hope everyone takes it to heart.

Clearing up the Lebanese-Israeli Conflict

I believe I need to clear up what I stated first off here is where I stand on the current conflict.

1. I do not support Hamas or Hezbollah, and would you be surprised to know that I do not condone the actions of Israel's retaliation but, I am willing to say that they were within their rights as a country to defend themselves.

2. I am not a terrorist sympathizer. What I am simply trying to point out is that many politicians in the west have cozied up to Israel simply out of convenience and the fact that nobody in hell wants to be seen next to Hamas or Hezbollah.

3. Let me be clear, I do not support or condone the acts of violence that have been going on between all sides and that includes Israel.

4. I personally believe that Terrorists have attacked the United States because of it's close ties towards Israel. I do not believe Israel to be a bad country in my view but in other countries in the middle east, Israel is extremely hated. I am not saying we should just stop supporting Israel I am saying that we need to back off sometimes and not let ourselves get involved in the affairs of other countries.

5. Yes Hamas is radical and I probably don't even share one single position they do. But lets keep in mind folks, for those of you who are keeping count. Hamas was democratically elected and while we may disagree with the palestinian peoples choice, we must at least respect the fact the government is not a dictatorship.

6. I will also point out that I am a pro-life, pro-peace, anti-death penalty person who believes that all life must be valued and must not be taken away.

Why Harper is wrong to stand with Israel

Don't get me wrong I know that Stephen Harper obviously pretty much does support Israel and I'm not saying its wrong to stand with Israel, obviously it is less controversial to stand with Israel then any other middle eastern countries. Here is the point I'm trying to get at. I'm not Anti-Semetic. I used to be what some would consider a very strong friend of Israel and pretty much believed that they were better then everyone else in the middle east.

Let me tell you the real reason why terrorists kill people, its not because they hate our freedom, its not because of that at all. The reason terrorists kill is because of the United States of America overwhelming one sided support of Israel. What I am trying to say is that having a bias of Israel is not good if you want to try and maintain middle east peace. I'm saying that Mr. Harper and the United States must take into consideration what other countries think and not just support Israel every single time in a war.

Most of the time you hear from Arab countries that the reason they are angry at the United States is because they accuse all of them as being a bunch of Zionists. Which in many ways I think that kind of support might be. I'm just trying to say that If you want a peace agreement you have to understand that Israel is no angel. Israel is just as bad as Palestine and Lebanon. So they are all at fault for starting this conflict.

Harper has no respect for the gay community

Yesterday, resident child of the conservative party youth wing "Lucky Pierre" Poilievre flipped the bird along with his friend Jacques "no brains in his" Gourde in the house of commons. This is not just the first occurence of Poilievre's delinquency, in fact there is many more occurances of his sickening behaviour.

Poilievre also papers his constituents with flyers. He has sent out 19 of them in just over a year, plus four householders.

Some of it is sophomoric stuff of the sort you'd expect from someone running for head of a campus chapter of the party youth wing. One of Poilievre's recent flyers features Prime Minister Paul Martin on a three-dollar bill. As you might imagine, it says "phoney as a three dollar bill."

The same flyer asks these piercing questions. Do you agree that Paul Martin should stop making phoney promises? Tick yes or no. If I think Martin is beating his wife, can I write that in? Poilievre reminds constituents that they can return this scientific survey to him without postage, free mail being an MP's privilege. What a wise use of taxpayers' dollars. 1

Nice to know that Pierre Poilievre is a huge hypocrite, this guy once went after the Liberals for the sponsorship scandal and here he is wasting your money on partisan house holders.

Mr. Pierre Poilievre (Nepean—Carleton, CPC): Madam Speaker, we speak regularly on this side of the House, and quite rightly, about Liberal corruption, Liberal theft, Liberal fraud. We have to repeat ourselves often because that is often the only discussion item generated from that side of the House.

This evening I am going to venture into some different territory. I am going to talk about the fundamental difference in philosophy that divides this side of the House from that side, that separates Conservatives, who believe in freedom, from the NDP-Liberal coalition, a coalition of corruption and socialism. I am going to give a few examples to illustrate this point. By the time I am through members will be convinced beyond any shadow of a doubt that our party represents a vision of freedom that all citizens of the country can embrace.

I am going to start by talking about economic policy. Across the way there is a party that takes dollars out of the pockets of assembly line workers and reallocates them into the pockets of high priced CEOs and blue chip billionaires. That is the social justice they talk about over there.

What did they do recently? It did not get widely reported. They sort of went under the radar screen. They took a quarter of a billion dollars, $250 million. That number rings a bell. Everyone thinks I am about to talk about the quarter of a billion dollars of Liberal theft in the sponsorship program.

This time they gave, this is the anti-American Liberal Party, a quarter of a billion dollar loan to a nearly bankrupt American airline company. They gave nearly a quarter of a billion dollar loan to--2

Mr. Poilievre might be one of the most vicious people in the entire conservative caucus when it comes to speaking.

Mr. Pierre Poilievre: Mr. Speaker, I rise on a point of order. The member is referring directly to the Prime Minister by name. He should show some respect for that office and some respect for the House by following-

Mr. Pierre Poilievre: Mr. Speaker, the member will be waiting until it is a very cold day some place other than here before he gets an apology from me. I am proud to say that I am a member of a party that has exposed 13 years of brutal corruption unparalleled in Canadian history. I will never be silenced in speaking out against it.

Mr. Pierre Poilievre: If the Liberal government had continued with its plan, which we intend very proudly to cancel, that money would have been enough to perhaps provide a child care space for maybe 1 in 20 or 1 in 25 children. Our plan flows money to every single child. Why is the hon. member against a universal system that gives money to every child?

Poilieve was also caught recently using foul language in a committee meeting Lying about it, he changed his tune once the tape of his language was presented to him.3

Finally another gem from the mouth Poilievre.

Mr. Pierre Poilievre (Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board, CPC): Mr. Speaker, the hon. member failed to discuss at any length the accountability act that will be the toughest anti-corruption law in Canadian history. Among other things, it will create an anti-corruption watchdog who will protect whistleblowers against bullying. It will end the revolving door between lobby firms and ministers' offices. It will give the Auditor General the power to shine light in every dark corner in her hunt for waste, theft and corruption. The member's party is familiar with all of those things.

Finally, it will ban big money and corporate cash from political campaigns altogether. These are concrete steps that will form the basis for the toughest anti-corruption law in Canadian history.

Why did the member not take at least a few moments to acknowledge those steps? Could it be that his party is shaking, that his party is terrified about the implications that those tough measures will have on the practises and modus operandi of his organization, the Liberal Party of Canada?

Mr. Pierre Poilievre (Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board, CPC): Mr. Speaker, it is abundantly clear that the sovereignists need corrupt Liberals to justify achieving sovereignty. Such is the extremely useful relationship they have with corrupt Liberals who, in turn, use the separatists as an excuse for their corruption, as we have seen in connection with the sponsorship scandal.

The hon. member may try to deny this relationship between the Bloc and the Liberals. She may not want to admit that the sovereignists need the corrupt Liberals to justify separation. Otherwise, is she prepared to say loud and clear that she supports our extending sitting hours in order to pass the accountability bill, which will thoroughly clean up politics in this country, and that she will work to have this bill passed by the Senate before the summer recess?

Jamming with Stéphane Dion

As most of the Liberal Bloggers on this site were aware, I recieved an email from Stéphane Dion's campaign yesterday and decided to join the conference call today. I had the opportunity to ask Mr. Dion some questions. I want you to keep in mind that I tried to type as fast as I can and realize I might have accidently mangled some views. If I am guilty of that, please do not hesitate to tell me I made a mistake.

Regarding Equalization Formula, recently Premier Lorne Calvert of Saskatchewan has gotten angry at Stephen Harper's perceived renegging of his promise to take out oil and gas revenues from the Equalization Formula. My Question to you is: What would you do to fix the equalization formula?

I think we (the federal government) made a mistake when we killed the equalization formula, The federal government should be helping provinces below the canadian average. We have accepted to see the amount of equalization go up by 3, 4 or 5% a year. The Rich provinces have got richer and the poor provinces have got poorer. The gap has becoming bigger and not narrower. I would add to the formula a ceiling that would cap the amount of equalization a province could receive.

Kyoto is demanding, but Kyoto does work, we had only begun to start meeting our kyoto targets. I hope that some time in the near future when I am Prime Minister we will hopefully be able to salvage Kyoto, If you look at a country like Sweden, It has some of the most efficient technology in the world and it operates fantastically under Kyoto.

Overall the interview was great, I was extremely impressed by the answers he gave and enjoyed talking to him.

Sleazy Joe Must Go

Joe Volpe has done the Liberal Party a tremendous disservice by taking donations from people not of legal age to donate. Volpe should have the fortitude to step down from this leadership race because he knows fullwell he has no chance at becoming Leader of the Party, let alone Prime Minister.

Stephen Harper has done it again, Little Stevie has started to once again act his shoe size and not his age. The latest spectacle of Harper follows that old Conservative Conspiracy Theory and well-known tradition that the Media is run by a bunch of liberals out to get them.

Mr. Harper's behaviour is outrageous and unbefitting of a prime minister, his temper tantrums and outbursts are complete undignified and unpriministerial, you can say what you want but Mr. Harper has been acting like a school yard bully and his lack of respect for everyone around him is really despicable.

Mr. Harper has no right to claim the media is biased against him, The media is biased against him because he has given them a reason to be biased against him, he has thumbed his nose at the media and treated them like dirt so he should expect to get the same treatment right back at him. Once again, I should point out that is another example of Mr. Harper "cutting and running" from his problems.

Mr. Harper has decided that rather then suck it up and take the media's questions like a man he has decided to give the media the finger and run like the little cowardly man he is. Mr. Harper is extremely unwise to treat the media like this, there is an old saying from the Godfather that goes "keep your friends close, but your enemies closer." Mr. Harper is extremely foolish to have tarnished the great relations he had been having with the media up until his swearing-in ceremony.

So Mr. Harper, how about you go back to crib and stop shaking your rattle everytime you don't get your way. Like the Rolling Stones said "You Can't Always Get What You Want." So suck it up, Stevie.

After watching Stephen Harper the past week I have come to the conclusion that this man has go to be the world's biggest coward, whether he was cowering from Kyoto Targets, whether it was cowering from setting up a public appointments commission, or whether he was cowering from the national media and even when he was cowering from a real debate on afghanistan.

Yes, let it be known that Stephen Harper is by far the world's biggest hypocrite, he says he will not cut and run, but Mr. Harper has cut and run so many times from his problems he should be known as not only a coward but also he should be known as extremely lazy. Stephen Harper has also become one of the most arrogant prime ministers in the history of this country

Why is Mr. Harper lazy? Perhaps its because he and his latte sipping compadre Rona Ambrose have no plan for the environment just empty promises that do not mean anything, sure Mr. Harper has kept his commitments but those commitments do absolutely nothing for this country. Mr. Harper is lazy on the environment because he refuses to even come up with anything for Kyoto and just dismiss it and brand it as a failure. Mr. Harper cut and run on Kyoto when the opposition parties outvoted him on Kyoto, Simply put Mr. Harper has zero respect for people's democratic choices, it's quite ironic his little miscreant Jason Kenney claimed Paul Martin had zero respect for democratic choices because it's quite apparent Mr. Harper has the same respect. Harper's pathetic "made-in Canada" solution is just an excuse to bash any European Country because Mr. Harper thinks of them probably as a bunch of left-wing communist pinko radicals.

Mr. Harper is also lazy and cowardly when it comes to Gwyn Morgan, The very simple truth of the matter is Mr. Harper was so lazy that he didn't even bother asking opposition MP's what they thought of him, Is Mr. Harper living in some kind of dreamworld where he thinks he is the king and what he says goes? Because last I checked this was a minority government and Mr. Harper has already started acting like an abusive, threatening bully towards everyone else in the house of Commons. Gwyn Morgan deserved his fate, because of Mr. Harper's foolish error, I feel no sympathy for what happened to Mr. Morgan. Mr. Harper cut and run from the public accounts commission because he couldn't get his crony installed.

Mr. Harper's treatment of the media is disgusting, Mr. Harper claims that it's better to be respected then liked. On the contrary, Mr. Harper is making a huge error when it comes to this, usually you are only respected if you are liked and Mr. Harper probably is not very well liked personally by the Canadian Public. Yet these two go hand in hand. I can think of very few instances where someone is respected more then they are liked and Stephen Harper just does not constitute any respect from me, he hasn't earned it.

Finally, Mr. Harper has shown he "gots no cojones" on Afghanistan. Mr. Harper in pseudo-GWB style uses Republic Pollster Frank Luntz phrases such as "cut and run, tax relief, made-in-Canada , God bless Canada". Mr. Harper has started uses phrases to replace the truth, when you hear the words "Mission in Afghanistan" that is a lie, this is no mission, this is a war and he is simply throwing in mission because if he used the word "War" there would be a good chance of anti-war protesters clamoring in the streets singing "War, What is it good for, absolutely nothing!"

So I expect the Trolling Tory brigade to come in here and claim how great there leader is, personally, I tell you not to bother because we already have enough tory propaganda in this country right now and I don't need to hear any of your bullshit.

Why Congressmen Alan Mollohan and William Jefferson Should Step Down

Two Democratic Congressmen who are under intense scrutiny and investigation have the duty to step aside from Congress and re-election. The Democrats cannot claim to be the party of the ethics if we have people like Alan Mollohan and William Jefferson in this party.

On April 25, 2006, The Wall Street Journal reported that Mollohan cooperated with CEO Dale R. McBride of FMW Composite Systems Inc. of Bridgeport, West Virginia for the joint purchase of his 300 acre farm along West Virginia's Cheat River. Mollohan had directed a $2.1 million government contract earmarked to FWM composite systems to develop lightweight payload pallets for space-shuttle missions. Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have started asking questions in Washington and West Virginia about Mollohan’s investments and whether they were properly disclosed, according to the Journal. Mollohan had previously admitted he may have made "inadvertent" mistakes on financial disclosure forms.1

While this is pretty bad, Mollohan still has the duty to step aside from Congress and not run for re-election we do not need these kinds of people in the Democratic Party because that gives the republicans ammo to fire at us and claim the Democrats are hypocrites.

Mollohan still however doesn't hold a candle to William Jefferson of New Orleans, who is insanely corrupt.

On July 30, 2005, he was caught on video tape by the FBI accepting a $100,000 dollar bribe in $100 dollar bills in a leather briefcase at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Arlington. Jefferson told an investor, Lori Mody, who was wearing a wire, that he would need to give Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar $500,000 "as a motivating factor" to make sure they obtained contracts for iGate and Mody's company in Nigeria.

A few days later, on Aug 3, 2005, FBI agents raided Jefferson's home in Northeast Washington and, as noted in an 83-page affidavit filed to support a subsequent raid on his Congressional office, "found $90,000 of the cash in the freezer, in $10,000 increments wrapped in aluminum foil and stuffed inside frozen-food containers."

Late in the night of May 20, 2006, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Jefferson's office in the Rayburn House Office Building. The New Orleans Times-Picayune has received details of the allegations and published them on Monday, May 22.2

Jefferson has no right anymore to be a member of congress, he has the utmost duty to resign from congress immediately, Mollohan may have been steering contracts, but both ethically-charged congressmen hurt the democratic argument about corruption when they tolerate two kinds of people like this. They have no right to be members of the party anymore.

So please, Howard Dean force these criminals to resign immediately.

That would then leave Bob Rae to try his hand at trying to capture the Parkdale-High Park seat from Peggy Nash,

The man has already decided to live in Quebec for two months of the summer and that is a brilliant move on his part, If he does live in Quebec, he would legitimately be able to claim he has experienced all of Canada (except for Atlantic Canada). He would also be able to get a diverse viewpoint from all the people in Canada. This is a smart move on his behalf and it shows that Gerard Kennedy is not afraid to take a risk when the dividends could definitely help him.

In a few hours, I'll be taking the short train ride into Toronto from Oakville, Tonight is going to be magical, after hearing the informal leaders forum. 10:00 everyone parties down and you can find hospitality suites, I'll be going to Gerard Kennedy's which is on Executive Suite Floor 4, Queen Tower, Friday 10pm-Midnight, Saturday 9 PM-Midnight.

I should also share that while I have met Gerard and while he probably wouldn't remember me when I met him last summer at the OLP AGM, I have recently discovered that I have a possible family relation to Mr. Kennedy.

My Uncle Digby Wright's Father Arthur Wright, was good friends with Betty Kennedy and Gerard Kennedy Sr., While I am still unsure if these are his parents or grand parents. What I do know is Arthur definitely knew one of the Kennedy relatives, because Digby mentioned that they owned a shirt factory in Winnipeg, Manitoba. That would definitely put in my mind that has definitely got to be Gerard because as all of you know Gerard was born in Manitoba. I couldn't believe I heard this and I intend tonight, if I can get a conversation with Mr. Kennedy to mention this story to him. If I can confirm it there will be a post. Harper Slaps Aboriginal Canadians in the face

The Budget brought down today by Prime Minister Tax Credit and his friend Jimbo Flaherty is a disgrace to Canada, Sure it will be nice to have some of our money back but at what cost? The Newspapers tommorrow are all likely to report how much tax breaks your all going to get. But at what cost? Well you are going to get some more money in your pocket at the expense of your health (the environment) and you will also be getting your tax break on the backs of all aboriginal canadians. Mr. Harper simply ought to be ashamed of himself for de-funding the Kelowna Accord, It was a purely ideological move and his actions shame all Canadians. I myself am ashamed to see my government cut funding to this. It makes me feel that I'm a part of it. This is just another blemish on the many years of mistreatment by various canadian governments of aboriginal people. Rather then leave the funding alone, Harper disgracefully ripped up the Kelowna Accord. It's shameful, absolutely shameful that Harper has slapped aboriginals in the face during a time in Caledonia where aboriginals are protesting for their land back. This cutting of the accord adds insult to injury and pours salt on open wounds and for that I am mad. Also, I personally cannot believe the Bloc would join Harper in voting for this budget, Duceppe was bought off with the fiscal imbalance, however, I cannot blame him for doing what he was elected to do, he said he would vote for things in quebec's interest and obviously he sees that part in Quebec's interest. Mr. Duceppe I know definitely has a heart. However, that being said Mr. Duceppe is simply doing this because he doesn't want an election and quite frankly I agree with him, we simply do not need an election right now. However, I do feel sorry for Duceppe because it's like cutting your hand instead of your hair, what i mean is he's voting for something that I truly believe he does not support at all, and that's he's doing this because he knows that the majority of the people don't want an election, While I disagree with his reason for supporting the budget. I will admit that he is doing the right thing for the Canadian People as they have been electioned out despite the fact that personally he knows deep down what he is voting for will really hurt canadians more then help them.

Views From The Left Once Again Endorses Gerard Kennedy

A few days after the 2006 election I wrote that:

Mr. Kennedy is young at a fresh 45, he is very charismatic and has singlehandedly changed the education system in Ontario, it is getting better because of him.

Having someone like him come from the outside of Ottawa will render Tory attacks with the sponsorship scandal useless.

He also ran a food bank which will be very appealing to the NDP constituency because they will definitely flock in groves to Kennedy.

He was born in the west as well, is bilingual and has experience.

This blog is proud to endorse Gerard Kennedy for leader of the Liberal Party of Canada.

And today he has decided to run for the Leadership of the Liberal Party, I will once again state my support for Gerard Kennedy's Bid for the Leadership of the Liberal Party.

I stated that he was outside of the Sponsorship Scandal and that is true. But I have met the man and I must say he is very nice and he comes across as a man with a lot of charisma. He is also young at 45, and he will have a huge advantage over Dion and Ignatieff because of his age. He is also a fresh face and I believe he can definitely go toe to toe with Stephen Harper. Whether he becomes Prime Minister, it is way to early to tell.

But I urge every Liberal to think with their head and support Gerard Kennedy. Michael Ignatieff has been out of this country for 30 years and we should not be supporting him, despite the fact I will agree that he has a fantastic mind. Stephane Dion is a good man and he's probably along with Ken Dryden my 2nd and third choices. I urge all Liberals to abandon Belinda Stronach, Scott Brison and Bob Rae. All three of these people have barely been in the Liberal Party. And Rae in particular should not be supported because he has only been in the party for one day. All three of these people have great strengths, they would be great ministers, but they are not Leadership Material.

So I once again will say that Gerard Kennedy has my support and I am going to do everything in my power to make sure he is the one to take on Stephen Harper in the next election.

Harper's Robotic Throne Speech

I must say I was not impressed by the entire throne speech by the Conservative Government. The throne speech is complete pandering to the provinces. Mr. Harper has proven himself to be "nothing more then a headwaiter to the provinces." I am a hardline federalist, I believe that Quebec is no different from any other province, granted I will admit that Quebec does have it's cultural differences but is again just another promise. The Conservative Party has proven it really has no plan except to spew the same five old lines again and again. There is in my opinion, even less accountability from this government then from the Liberals. They are completely paranoid when it comes to the media claiming that it is run by a bunch of liberals, which is total horse shit in my own opinion. On Strike

Unfortunately, We are now into the 2nd day of a strike here in Ontario Colleges, there has been no agreement reached and as a result I have been locked out. As a matter of principle, I am pro-union and I am for their right to strike. However, I believe that teachers have no right to do it during a school year and it is wrong for them to walk out on the students that are also paying their salaries.

I am hoping this is resolved quickly because I want to get back to school.

My Opinion on the Oscars

It was a night of glitz, glamour and dissapointment. I am glad to see a film like Crash win. But those were not the dissapointment that many of you thought I was going to talk about.

I want to say that Felicity Huffman and Amy Adams, two talented Actresses. Were robbed by sad excuses for performances coming from Rachel Weisz and Reese Witherspoon and I say that because I have seen there performances. Ms. Weisz really did not deserve that Statuette she was barely in the Constant Gardener at all I'd estimate at least around Twenty to Thirty Minutes in that movie. I'd like to compare that to a woman like Amy Adams who played a very difficult role considering the fact she had to wear a fat suit to show her pregnant belly, but also she was funny and heartwarming in that movie. I'd like to say Felicity, its a shame you had to lose to that tart Witherspoon.

Let me say Felicity Huffman's performance was one of the most difficult roles that anyone could ever play. How hard do you think it was for this woman to be put into that makeup everyday and play a role (a pre-operative transexual) that many people in this world would look down on and think that someone like that is nothing. Let's compare this to Reese Witherspoon who played June Carter Cash, let me say she had her moments but the problem is I just really do not think she deserved this because I believe this was a much easier role then Felicity's.

Finally, Dolly Parton shamefully and sickeningly got robbed by a rap song with no class (It's Hard Out Here For a Pimp), I challenge you to listen to Travelin' Thru the song from Transamerica. This is a beautiful song that has lyrics that fit the movie perfectly.

This is a great lyric because it perfectly shows the internal struggle going on inside Huffman's character Bree Osbourne. The Puzzle and Pieces analogy is a perfect example of what somebody like Bree goes through in this film.

Three Strong By-Election Candidates

Wow, The Ontario Liberal Party has three strong Candidates running in By-election and you know what, it looks like they have a chance at all three.

Police Chief Brian Ford running in Nepean-Carleton for the Liberals against Tory Insider Lisa MacLeod, I think the Tories have an extremely weak candidate here and while this may be a tory stronghold, I think this could go Liberal because Ford is well known.

Well known toronto Broadcaster Ben Chin running in Toronto-Danforth against a former city councillor Peter Tabuns. Peter Tabuns will make this a close race but Chin has the upper hand because he has the name recognition.

Finally, Former Liberal MP Judi Longfield running in Whitby-Ajax, she has a very strong chance at winning. She might face off against Ian McNeil who she beat in 2004. I think she has a good chance of winning this seat. It would be kind of funny if she won because it would almost mean that Longfield and Flaherty switched spots.

Toews Loses His Mind

Just when I think I've seen it all, I manage to catch this little gem from the Ottawa Sun.

I am at a loss for words at the sheer stupidity of Vic Toews, this man now wants to put twelve year old children in the prison system. Unbelievable, I cannot honestly believe somebody is so coldhearted to somebody who is still growing up. Imagine if your twelve, how scared would you be if you were put in prison, with men at least much older then you.

Some kids at a very young age are introduced to crime. Punishment is not answer to crime. What the Conservative Party clearly doesn't understand is Urban Areas. It should be no surprise they've been shut out of every major populated urban area except one seat in Winnipeg and a few in Regina, Saskatchewan as well as Edmonton and Calgary. But the fact is that the only way you can kill off crime is by cutting it off at its source. You can't kill a tree of slowly by poisoning it but if you cut it at the bottom it will die. The same analogy can be used for Crime.

Mr. Toews has clearly lost his mind in this case and I am just shocked he even thought about this.

South Dakota has officially made women second class citizens by passing an abortion ban on every single abortion unless it endangers a woman's health. Can you imagine if your a woman who has just been raped by some sicko? You are now forced by South Dakota's sickening dispicable law to have his child. If there is anything that is more awful in this law I challenge you to find it for me.

Cheney Was Drunk When He Shot Whittington

According to a recent report by Secret Service Agents says Vice President Dick Cheney was "clearly inebriated" at the time of the shooting.

It also states that Dick Cheney's claim that he only drank "one beer" is completely false. Doug Thompson states that he talked with a number of administration officials who are privy to inside information on the Vice President's shooting "accident" and all admit Secret Service agents and others saw Cheney consume far more than the "one beer' he claimed he drank at lunch earlier that day.

"This was a South Texas hunt," says one White House aide. "Of course there was drinking. There's always drinking. Lots of it."

If this is true, Cheney could be guilty of a felony under Texas law and the shooting would be a prosecutable offense. Cheney has the obligation to resign as Vice President for this accident, there is no reason why somebody who is the 2nd highest elected official in the United States has to embarrass his country with this kind of sickening behaviour.

Cheney did not have a Hunting License

As many of you all know, you have no doubt heard about the crazy antics of United States Vice President Dick Cheney getting trigger happy on his lawyer friend Harry Whittington.

Well it now turns out that the veep did not have a hunting license (to hunt quail). I must now wonder if in the United States Republican Party believes the rule of law no longer applies to them, lets just recap everything that has gone on.

First there was the Jack Abramoff influence-peddling scandal, then there was the Iraq War and them telling the United Nations to take a hike, then there was the Domestic Wiretap Scandal which made them think they are above the law to spy on people, and now we come to Dick Cheney who now believes he is once again above the law.

You know it's funny, I kept hearing during the election how corrupt the Liberal Party was up here, Imagine my surprise when I look across the border and see the kind of shit coming out of the United States, if there was ever an argument for a criminal organization, it is the Republican Party. If people would realize that the GOP fear tactics regarding how unsafe the people are is actually false we would not have them in office.

Remember in November, the Republicans are going to use this election to scare you about rediculous hogswallop like how there is a possibility of another terrorist attack on the United States. But what they will not tell you is the reason there is, is because they have aggravated tensions by deciding to start an illegal war in Iraq. I agree that Saddam Hussein was a tyrant and what not, but the truth is he lied about why they went to Iraq and still I'm perplexed that there are people who actually believe Bush has done something good. I admit that I do believe Iraq hasn't gone great and I think his handling of the war has been horrendous.

But if the Republicans are so bad, why is it that the Democrats have been unable to capitalize? I think it is because they need to get their act together and start hammering an agenda home to the american people. They need to respond to the Republican Party slur attacks with their own when they fight back. I admit that the party does have the organization, Much as I think Howard Dean needs to have a stapler on his mouth, I will give him credit he has introduced ideas on how to fundraise and how to keep the Democrats debt-free. The Structural Organization of the Party is strong it is the message that is incoherent.

I'm not expecting the Dems to sling mud, but when the Republicans come after them with low ball mudslinging tactics they shouldn't hesitate to fight back.

Unbelievable, Simply Unbelievable. After one week of this Government, I'm almost about to say throw the bums out, I cannot honestly believe the shit coming out of the Conservative Party.

It is simply unbelievable that this man is using taxpayer money to travel around Manitoba so he can ask people if they would support him in a leadership bid. I'm not surprised about Brian Porkister, after all this is the man who is going to potentially create a useless by-election if he chooses to run which is looking more and more likely.

Then the Ultimate Hypocrisy comes in the form of none other then Tratitor in Command David Emerson.

There are simply two words I could use to describe his response: Holy Shit! Just simply astounding, I think the funniest quote of this story was this.

"I'm not opposed to a byelection,'' he (Emerson) said Monday during an appearance on Vancouver radio station CKNW's Bill Good open-line show. "All I'm saying is let's have a set of rules that applies to everyone.

Well then Mr. Emerson if you don't oppose a by-election how about you do what nearly 71% of Canadians want you to do and that is resign and face a by-election.

I should also point out David Emerson didn't support the Preston/Guergis Anti-Floor Crossing Bill when it came out, so the sheer fact he's supporting it now is completely hypocritical.

But you want to know what really angers me? It's this horse shit that people like Andrew Coyne talk about saying that we should move on from David Emerson. I kindly extend my middle finger to Mr. Coyne and say, Hell no. This is not over until it is over and if Andrew Coyne thinks he's just going to get away with something like this then he's damn wrong.

So Bloggers, I'm asking you. Keep the Emerson story in the spotlight, this man doesn't deserve a break at all.

Garth Turner, Rodney MacDonald and Torino

Granted I was originally upset that a good man like Gary Carr lost to Garth Turner but still I am glad to see him sticking his neck out for the people of Halton. It's a great thing to see and I admire him for that courage, now I'm hoping he'd sit as an independent.

But, I want to touch on Premier Rodney MacDonald of Nova Scotia, he has just won the leadership race to replace John Hamm as the Premier of the Province of Nova Scotia.

I wish him luck, he seems like a good man. But, I will say who loved that Olympic Games Opening Ceremony, yesterday?

Vic Toews: Screw Parliament!

I was pretty shocked to read something like this from the Conservatives Do you remember when the Conservatives made a huge stink about the fact that Martin bypassed Parliament and said no to the Missile Defence and that they would never ever do something that he did.

What we have here is another broken promise. It doesn't matter if they don't do it in the end, the fact Mr. Toews thought of it, is purely sickening as well. What is it with this government? I actually had high expectations for them (I'm serious, I really did), I thought they would actually be above this kind of shit after they tore the Liberals a new one over Ethics and Corruption.

The Tories have proven to me that they believe that they think they are above the law and that like John Reynolds said "Campaigns are Campaigns."

Let's just take a look at what the Tories campaigned against.

Members of Parliament becoming Lobbyists: John Reynolds is already registering to become a lobbyist, I guess the rules don't apply to him.

Cronyism: They appointed Michael Fortier, the Tory Campaign Co-Chair as a little thank you for winning the election, Promise Broken.

Floor-Crossing: While they didn't say much about this in the election, they none the less made a huge brou-ha-ha over Belinda Stronach, only to see them do the same thing and bring over David Emerson.

Cracking Down on Criminals: Please explain to me what a convicted Criminal like Vic Toews is doing in Cabinet? For that matter, Why is he in a position that deals with locking up Criminals none the less?

Senate Reform: It doesn't matter if the Harper promised Senate Reform, for years he crowed about how undemocratic the Liberals were, and in his first day in Office he appoints a Senator. Let's just forget Fortier's Conditions, the fact Harper even did it is just another Broken Promise all together.

Regarding the Gun Registry, I do think it is a waste of Money, but Mr. Toews has no right to bypass parliament and eliminate this when it was created by a vote on parliament. So for him to do it is sickening. Is this what they will do if they can't get approval on their completely flawed Child-Care Plan? I shudder to even think such things.

Why The Emerson Fiasco Doesn't Even Touch Stronach

I keep hearing the Conservatives babble on about how this is no different then what Belinda Stronach did. First of all there are major differences.

1) Belinda had the common courtesy to at least sit with the party for a year, before she decided she didn't like it. David Emerson jumped ship without warning two weeks after he was elected as a LIBERAL!

2) Belinda might have changed the shape of parliament and specifically the fact she didn't bring the government down. Emerson has actually changed the shape of Parliament by effectivly allowing 126 Conservative Votes (Plus Andre Arthur because he's a natural Libertarian, Add that to 29 NDP Votes and you get exactly 155, enough to pass tough legislation, if needed.

3) Belinda never said she was in the Conservative Party for the long haul, David Emerson said he was.

4) Belinda did it for legitimate reasons because she didn't want a budget to fall, David Emerson didn't do it for any well spelled out reason.

So to even claim Belinda was worse then this is just simply rediculous.

Jim Flaherty and Tony Clement-Big Mistakes by Harper, the fact that he's depending on Jim Flaherty to represent Toronto is simply astounding. Tony Clement, will expect to see his record on privatization of health care.

Don't Believe A Word The Media Says

I am getting sick and tired of hearing the media chirp about how the Liberal Party is in such disarray, I think they are completely lying and being dishonest about the real situation. The party is trying to heal old wounds and it seems to be working. I love these predictions about them saying Frank McKenna not running is a blow to the Liberal Party, that is total horseshit, McKenna not running is the best thing that could happen to the liberal party, it has been years since we have had a good policy discussion in the liberal party and it's what we need. I think people have to realize that we have vote for the next leader based on what's good for the party.

Unless Gerard Kennedy runs, my support is wide open for any leader, the next leader is going to have to capture my imagination, convince me that they can defeat Stephen Harper, convince me that they can garner support all across Canada, and does not have too many skeletons in there closet.

That said I can tell you what I'm looking for.

1) Someone who can appeal to all Canadians.
2) Someone who can slaughter Harper in a debate.
3) Someone who talks and sounds like a Prime minister.
4) Someone who has Charisma

Amazing, the sheer gall of the Conservatives to lecture us about wasting tax payer money and then we find out today that Brian Pallister who said he was originally going to commit to serving the residents of Portage-Lisgar, Manitoba has instead flat out lied about what he was doing, he has now decided to break his word and decide to look into a leadership race.

First of all, this is the second broken promise by the Conservatives before they have even taken office and been sworn in, the first occured when they promised in the Election Campaign to defend public health care and now they have essentially given Ralph Klein, the greenlight to go fuck up the public health system in Alberta.

Wonderful on Brian Pallister's part though, nice to know how much he cares about people, that in his riding if he goes along with his plan, that there will be another meaningless by-election where the tories will definitely win.

Take a Chill Pill, For the Love of God!

Alright, I know It shouldn't have to come to this but I am asking everyone in my party to please for the love of all that is holy, to take a chill pill and stop over-reacting.

I urge people to send letters to the national executive stating how we want a late date sometime in early 2007 so that we can set up some policy.

First off I want to dissect why the liberals lost this campaign.

1) The truth hurts, but we came off as arrogant, we cannot just expect Canadians to give us their votes, they need to be persuaded with policy and we just didn't have it.

2) Bad campaign management: I never want to see any of these people who ran this campaign back in the war room during the next election, they have shown that they just can't be trusted. I ask my fellow party members to consider why we would want to vote in Frank McKenna when he's going to bring back the old martin squad that blundered this election, I urge everyone to vote against McKenna we don't need the same failed leadership that occured under Martin.

3) Not enough over-sight: there is no reason why we should have somebody insulting parents by talking about beer and popcorn. I also want to ask in regards to that advertisement about the military, is who were the ad wizards that let that one get even on the website.

So I am asking that you give the Liberal Party all the time it needs to rebuild, we should not feel rushed by Stephen Harper and his agenda, we have to take our time, or it might mean we'll be sitting on the opposition benches for a long time.

I had been leaning a few days ago towards endorsing Frank McKenna on this blog until I read The Dan Report suggesting Gerard Kennedy should be a serious leadership contestant.

I could not agree more, I can definitely say that Mr. Kennedy has won me over and should he run will get my endorsement.

Gerard Kennedy is the man we need as evidenced by The Dan Report's thorough analysis of this man.

Mr. Kennedy is young at a fresh 45, he is very charismatic and has singlehandedly changed the education system in Ontario, it is getting better because of him.

Having someone like him come from the outside of Ottawa will render Tory attacks with the sponsorship scandal useless.

He also ran a food bank which will be very appealing to the NDP constituency because they will definitely flock in groves to Kennedy.

He was born in the west as well, is bilingual and has experience.

The people of canada have spoken, and rightfully so, we did lose the election I know, but I am glad that Canada can move on beyond the sponsorship scandal that occured, Canada won tonight, Thanks to the conservatives winning, Quebecers will not see federalism as corrupt. We as liberals can win back the trust of the electorate but we have to be fair and sincere and not arrogant.

But I would like to be happy for the new Liberals elected in the west; Blair Wilson, Sukh Dhaliwal, Gary Merasty and Tina Keeper will be great members of parliament.

Congratulations to Lawrence Martin of the Globe and Mail for mentioning the "Calgary School".

I did a little research myself on this collective group and found they have writings that center around five common themes. Members of the Calgary School include Stephen Harper, Tom Flanagan, Rainer Knopff, Barry Cooper, Ted Morton, and David Bercuson. All of them are known for their hard right views, taking a look at this article there were these themes that kept coming up

A revisionist reading of the aboriginal issue. Flanagan has been at the forefront of efforts to reconfigure the debate over Canada's first nations, beginning with a controversial reassessment of Louis Riel, the Métis leader who fomented rebellions on the prairies in 1869-70 and in 1885, and who was subsequently executed by Sir John A. Macdonald's Conservative government. Flanagan has himself been a consultant to the federal government in court cases dealing with land claims - something which, as Marci McDonald has pointed out, has insulated him from criticism by Paul Martin's Liberal government. The Calgarians would generally like to see the reserves re-categorized as municipalities with the power to tax their residents;

A general hostility to group rights. This holds obvious relevance for the aboriginal issue, but it also embraces the recognition of special status for Québec and affirmative action for women and visible minorities. At the same time, given their western orientation, they are far from averse to constitutional mechanisms, such as a reformed upper chamber, that might empower the country's periphery over against central Canada, that is, Ontario and Québec. Their model here is the Australian Senate which represents each state equally, irrespective of population. Thus, their distrust of group rights obviously does not extend to territorially defined groups, provided they are treated equally;

A generally libertarian policy toward economic markets and taxation, and a distrust of the welfare state. Here their preferred policy options are not so much conservative as classically liberal, with the classical liberal emphasis on maximizing individual liberty in the face of what they perceive to be an overweening state. The spectre of Adam Smith's famous invisible hand hovers in the background, moving the Calgarians to embrace policies that would diminish the share of the economy dominated by the public sector. This would entail lowering government expenditures and taxes alike, thereby putting more economic resources and the decisions concerning their use in the hands of individuals;

Free trade, especially with Canada's closest neighbour, the United States. This is a logical implication of the Calgarians' preference for free domestic markets. As McDonald has pointed out, their orientation is definitely in a north-south rather than east-west direction. That Flanagan and Morton are American-born is perhaps of some significance for understanding this orientation, which has broader cultural, intellectual, and military implications as well. Their generally pro-American posture brings the Calgarians the most criticism from professed "Red Tories," such as the intellectual heirs of the late George Parkin Grant, who claim to represent an older tradition of conservatism with deeper roots in this country; and

A hostility to the activism of the courts, which are imposing an agenda that could never meet with success if it required approval by an ordinary parliamentary majority. Under the current post-1982 régime, governments have an incentive to avoid making difficult political decisions, passing them to the courts to decide. Because the courts don't face the people at the polls, they have no difficulty in making such decisions, even if these decisions are more appropriately made by a representative body. That this empowering of the courts has come at the expense of our hallowed constitutional principle of responsible government is deeply offensive to the Calgarians.

It should come as no surprise that Harper was musing about "activist judges" yesterday, he sounds almost like a Bush clone in disguise, notice how he ends his speeches with "God Bless Canada", how he claims the Senate and the public service will stop him from implementing his agenda. If anyone truly believes that Mr. Harper has had a miraculous conversion, then he has already fooled you. Mr. Harper reminds me of a quote from the Usual Suspects. "The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." We will see on monday whether it turns out that the Devil pulled that trick off.

Strategic Counsel: Biased Towards the Tories

The Tories do not have this election in the bag at all. All most every poll out there besides Strategic Counsel (which doesn't count undecided voters and probably goads a whole bunch of people into one group) is completely making this up as it goes along, Consider the fact that no poll has the Liberals at 24%, i mean today's SES said the Liberals were at 32% and the Decima poll had them at 28%, however, if you actually notice that there are a few biases in some polls. But lets take a look at SES' final poll from the 2004 election was and what the real result ended up being was

Liberals 34% (2% off)
Conservatives 30% (1% off)
NDP 20% (5% off)
BQ 12% (Accurate)
Green 4% (Accurate)

So in reality it could be argued that SES predicted it correctly except for the NDP swing which didn't occur until the last minute.

Also it should be noted that SES was the only pollster that caught the liberal upswing in Election 2004, something that everyone else was apparently baffled by the tory swing in the polls.

Harper Lied About Cost of Platform

According to CTV News,

Paul Darby, deputy chief economist of the Conference Board of Canada, originally concluded that Stephen Harper's Conservative platform "is affordable in each fiscal year from 2005-2006 through 2010-2011."

However, it turns out the version of the platform Darby was given to vet didn't include a Conservative party health-care guarantee which states patients will be transported to another jurisdiction if they can't get timely care at home.

The Platform also omitted a Tory platform promise to redress the so-called "fiscal imbalance" between Ottawa and the provinces.

This just goes to show that Harper's entire campaign has been nothing but smoke and mirrors, Many tories like Ted Byfield suggested the way Harper is talking now is because he wants to get elected and he will not tell anyone the actual truth about what he wants to do.

I swear to God, I have a stern warning for anyone who votes Tory. That is that many years down the road you will regret marking an "X" next to the Conservative Candidate in your riding, if the Tories get into power and then proceed to screw up Canada like I predict, then do not come crying to me, I will only say "I told you so" and "we tried to warn you, but you thought you knew better."

Mark my words, Harper's Conservatives will be the most right-wing government ever to set foot in Canada. The Media has done nothing but spin stories in their favor the entire campaign and ignoring the real questions about what this man will do. We deserve to know, Canadians have the right to know and shame on the media for giving Harper a free ride. I'm just disgusted to see Canadians being dooped by such empty words from the Tories.

Where is Rondo?

According to the Toronto Star, Radical Extremist Rondo Thomas who is running in Ajax-Pickering against Mark Holland, didn't show up at an all-candidates debate.

His spin master Mike Young said "Nobody's hiding anything, he's eager to talk about it," he said Thomas was ~~attending a funeral in eastern Ontario~~ running away from his own record.

Wake up Canada! This is the kind of people you are going to elect in the Conservative party, you are being sucked in by false rhetoric, smoke and mirrors and empty promises.

It'll be a shame if people are so blind as to not consider the facts and elect a Tory government on January 23.

Tories Have Their Own Criminals!

According to a news report on CTV, Conservative Party Candidate Derek Zeisman who is running in British Columbia Southern Interior was arrested in July of 2004, Zeisman was crossing into British Columbia from the United States, when Canada Customs charged him with attempting to smuggle in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and 112 containers of alcohol.

Zeisman is also accused of lying to Canada Customs about the incident.

So, if you thought the Tories were all innocent creatures, they definitely are not.

You may have just looked at my headline and think I must be a moron. But I tell you, Harper has hit his peak and that might be the scariest thing to anyone in Ontario. Look at the headlines in today's Toronto Star Right now the media is doing Martin's work for him, the news media is trying to scare voters by showing what everyone has feared a poll showing a Conservative Party near a majority government. Also, one might want to look at the new Liberal Party commercials that just attack Harper by using his own words against him. These ones will definitely show the truth about Mr. Harper's stands. If you look at the Washington Times ad, if there was one ad in my opinion that can damage Mr. Harper it is that Advertisement, it appear Mr. Martin is trying to use the Mulroney tactic that John Turner did in 1988, faced with Sagging momentum Mulroney ran hundreds of negative advertisements at Turner, the result? Mulroney won a majority Government. These ads cannot be dismissed as scare tactics, these ones actually will work and convince people that Stephen Harper's values are not their values.

Harper's Train Starting to Derail

The Liberal train was derailed a few days ago, it's now back up and running full speed ahead, two good announcements and Harper has already started to come undone, yesterday we learned that the Conservative Tax Plan features a let "them eat cake" proposal which will send more low-income seniors onto the tax rolls and will also put a big burden on lower-income families. Then we hear from the Right-Wing Toronto Sun that Harper is thinking that he's going to have a majority, this is exactly what started contributing to his downfall in the last election, while I don't think he'll make goofball mistakes like saying Paul Martin supports Child Pornography, he is starting to go down hill.

Stephen Harper's Tax Plan: Let Them Eat Cake!

So according to the CBC the Tories are going to increase income taxes on lower-income canadians. This is the first big screw-up by the tories in this campaign.

This is the tory "hidden agenda" that we have precisely been trying to warn Canadians that this what they are going to do by not even bothering to think about what impact voting Conservative will do.

The Conservatives say a Stephen Harper government would raise the rate on the lowest tax bracket back from 15 per cent back to 16 per cent in their first budget, probably in April. As well, the basic exemption, income on which no tax is charged, would be dropped by $400 in the same budget.

Okay now correct me if i'm wrong but the basic exemption for 2006 will be $9,039 and if they are going reduced that then it will be $8,639 which will be even lower then the $8,648 for basic exemption in 2005.

In my opinion, it seems the tories are running on a "Let Them Eat Cake" plan, I would expect Jack Layton and Gilles Duceppe to probably say something negative about this plan.

Low-Income Canadians have no reason to vote for the Conservatives for that matter, I admit the Low-Income vote will split between the New Democrats and the Liberals outside of Quebec, The Low-Income vote will almost definitely go to the Bloc Quebecois.

I'd like to also point out I made an earlier post comparing Harper to Mike Harris, and I was right! Harper is nothing more then a Mike Harris clone, soon poor people will be seeing their welfare slashed by astounding rates if you vote this man in. You may say it's fear mongering but it's just the facts, if you don't believe me go right here and read what the Tories actually think of certain issues.

Also, I did manage to dig up a story on a Tory riding official that happened way back in 2004 “Ed Odishaw who was co-chairman of the Conservative party's election campaign in B.C. in 2004, was forced to resign following disclosure that the B.C. Law Society was investigating his conviction under the Income Tax Act when he invested in a company named Austpro Energy, of which the company report stated that Odishaw directly and indirectly owned 1,127,231 company shares; which last traded at two cents on November 11, 2003. It is no longer actively trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
